Hi all
I tried to use andFHEM over the public internet, but couldn't make a
connection. That seems to be normal as the Fritzbox rejects incoming
requests on port 8084. has anybody found a way to open this port without
having to modify the Fritzbox to much?
Thanks

Hi,
no, you have to modify the FritzBox to allow this, as the firmware has a
restriction on port forwarding, so that no port can be forwarded to the
local FritzBox IP. If you want to enable that kind of port forwarding, you
have to make sure that you really know what you are doing, as this can
break your router - so no advice from me.

Hi
Just a brain wave.
The fritzbox uses port 443 for its own access with https. Maybe it is
possible to do something with that? I must admit I have no clue how much
work this would be.

More a brain tumor, than a brain wave: Never play around with the FB
firewall unless you REALLY know what you're doing.
You can simply set up a VPN between the Fritzbox and a remote device - and
then operate FHEM from your smartphone browser even when traveling
elsewhere.

Thanks for the advice. It is running now with andFHEM.
For other people who are trying this, it is far from simple to get a VPN to
work between an Android device and a Fritzbox. You need a rooted phone for
it and a lot of google-ing. And be sure you know what you are doing on
your phone.

Dead wrong.
Load the VPNC App (free) and install it as widget, works nicely to set up a
VPN.

Well that seems a matter of perception to me.
Rooting an android phone and checking whether tun.ko is installed in its
kernel, the preconditions for using VPNC, will not be considered as a peace
of cake by everyone I guess.

take a look to this article:
"fhem ueber vpn mit android smartphone steuern"
http://www.fischer-net.de/hausautomation/fhem/46-fhem-ueber-vpn-mit-android-smartphone-steuern.html
however, it's only in german language available.

Hi Martin
(Reading german is not at all a problem for me. Writing is :-) )
Very good how-to. Unfortunaly I didn't find it before I googled myself the
same instructions together. :-(
Just a minor difference between your and mine approach. I kept my stock rom
and installed "TUN.ko Installer" from DroidVPN Inc. And this worked too.
I think it would be good if a reference to your site was somewhere in the
wiki.
