COC (on Raspberry Pi) how to check if it is working?

I am using COC on Raspberry Pi and have flashed the COC.HEX successfully.
Instead of a patched kernel I have made the necessary changes myself. At
the moment I ignore I2C bus settings.
Using "screen /dev/AMA0 38400" command connects to the device and
"V" reports back with current revision - hence I get a proper response.
However, entering a "F" command to program a FS20 ST-3 device does not
seem to work.
Any idea who to check/debug the COC?
Have I missed to setup someing something basic?
I also have a CUL and here I  have no problems...

OK - false alarm - sorry to bother you. The FS20 ST-3 was actually out of
freq. Sending and reception works fine now!
